Eyelash Extensions not lasting very long?
If you find your eyelash extensions not lasting very long check this list of Do’s and Don’ts to see if there is anything that may improve your retention.
Do – Cleanse your Eyelash Extensions daily with a specially formulated lash cleanser. Dirt, oil and make up can build up at the base of your extensions, this cannot only break down the adhesive it can cause infections, demodex and lash loss. If you have somewhat oily skin and hair you may need to cleanse twice daily.
Don’t – Wear mascara and eyeliner. If you do it must be approved for eyelash extensions and be thoroughly cleansed off at the end of the day. These products can build up at the base of eyelash extensions turning hard and causing clumping. Most contain ingredients that can, overtime break down the adhesive causing poor retention.
Do – Use Oil Free facial products. Most adhesives on the market break down with contact from oil.
Do – Brush your extensions after patting dry or blow drying on cool. Brushing keeps the lashes separated and even.
Don’t – Fiddle or pick at your lashes. If you pick at them you may pull out your natural lashes with the extensions causing gaps. If your constantly touching and patting them you can be transferring oils from your finger tips to the extensions, which could overtime affect the adhesive.
Do – Avoid extreme heat. Dishwasher, ovens, fires, smoking, blow dryers etc. The extensions themselves in most cases are made of a type of plastic which means they can melt!
Do – Advise your technician if you are taking a regular medication. Some medications can cause retention issues.
Do – Use a molded sleep mask. If you sleep on your side or with your face into the pillow, friction can cause lashes to come off prematurely.
Don’t – Wear strip lashes, removal can pull off your extensions.
Do – Visit your Lash Tech every 2-3 weeks. Our lashes naturally shed daily at a rate of 2-5 natural lashes per day. Regular visits to your technician will keep them nice full and fluffy.
We hope this information will help you to trouble shoot with your lash technician any retention issues and make those eyelash extensions last longer!
